About

Hi, I'm Val.

I'm a product designer turned systems builder, and Field Systems is where I bring both to small businesses around Wadsworth.

Val Kellogg, founder of Field Systems

For about ten years I've designed and built digital products. The work has ranged from enterprise platforms like UMR in healthcare to consumer brands like Many Hands Many Lands, with a detour from coaching college soccer to designing software somewhere along the way. Different projects, but the same instinct every time: take something tangled and make it work.

A few years back I started building the behind-the-scenes systems that keep service companies running. Plumbers, HVAC shops, cleaners. The kind of business where the owner is also the dispatcher, the bookkeeper, and the marketer, and where the software somehow makes the day harder instead of easier. I kept running into the same problem. The tools were fine, but they didn't talk to each other, so someone was retyping the same information all day and the owner couldn't tell how the month was going until the accountant said so.

So I started wiring the pieces together. Bookings that flow into the calendar and the invoice on their own. Follow-ups that send themselves. A dashboard that shows profit by job instead of one big number at the end of the month. The busywork fades into the background, the picture gets clear, and the owner gets their evenings back. That's the whole job, and it's what Field Systems does now.

Why local

I'm based in Wadsworth and I work with businesses across Medina County and greater Akron, on purpose. A national agency hands you a template and a support queue. I would rather be the person you can call by name, who already knows your tools and can sit across the table when something actually matters. I cut my teeth in the trades, so that depth still shows up in the work, but the same systems help any small business that runs on jobs, appointments, and customers.

How I work

It's a small studio, and that's the point. You work with me directly, not a handoff to whoever happens to be free. We start with whatever is eating the most of your time, build the thing that takes it off your plate, get it live, and keep tightening from there. No long contracts, no jargon, and no surprises on the invoice.

Book a short call and tell me where your time goes. I'll give you a straight answer on what's worth automating and what isn't.
